Although the South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro and a section of residents wants the government to expedite the construction, other residents from Kisii County are criticising the idea saying that the sugar factory is the last thing the county needs.

After the meeting that was held at South Mugirango aimed at getting views from the locals on the construction, many people hurled insults on the county leadership saying the scheme will not work and Ongwae should stop it.

@Omogambi Nyachae: “The last thing Kisii County needs is a sugar factory. Why is this even a debate! And worse still, they are hiving off a forest to put it up? Fikira potovu za kiushenzi.”

@Dennis Mokaya:” The rate at which the area MP and the governor are pushing for the construction of this factory is indicative of one thing: either wamekula pesa ya developer or they have a stake at the project.”

@Jairus Morata: “These factories have impoverished residents of Luo Nyanza. Worse still the only forest in Gusii is the target because Ongwae has squandered 1 billion meant for the said project.”

@ Fred Moturi: Why is the governor thinking that the sugar factory will do well in Kisii when the westerners have lots of problems?”

@Douglas Bosire: “The governor has perfected the diversionary tactics to shift focus fro, other crucial programs and projects that have failed to take off.”

@ Phaminus Ombuna: “Ongwae has been a classic failure. He cannot salvage his legacy by imposing a hazardous project on the people. Anyone who has seen the EIA? How about public participation? This is a cash cow for the governor.”

@Branam Okari: “Let us not allow that project. It is Uhuru’s business it will highly impoverish the residents.”

@Vincent Akama :” I also do not think that Kisii County needs the project.”
