On Saturday, Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny led several leaders in condemning the manner in which Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter was arrested by the police.

"Kenyans will judge you based on your obedience to the law. Using the police to intimidate people is wrong and Rift Valley is watching you," he told Uhuru.

The president is struggling to stamp authority within the Jubilee party with the DP William Ruto remaining silent on topical issues.

And Kapraset MP Oscar Sudi and his Moiben counterpart Silas Tiren on Sunday warned that the country was headed to a wrong direction due to violation of people's rights.

"It is important for the law to be followed. Locking someone without even writing OB is a violation of rights," said Sudi.

On his part, Tiren said: "It is important for the state to respect people's representatives. Harassing then amounts to disrespecting electorates and we are watching."

Despite being charged with fraud, Rift Valley MPs believe the arrest of Keter is a wider scheme to intimidate critics.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi had also warned the police against being 'misused' by the state in executing 'illegal crackdown'.
