Wainaina now wants the county officers to stop using force especially when collecting tax from small scale traders.

“I am condemning the way county reinforcement officers who are working closely with revenue collection officers to harass traders in my constituency.

"Traders know very well that they are supposed to pay daily tax and for me I don’t see the reason why county officers should harass the traders. They should be asked to pay levies in a decent way because by the end of the day the money comes from their pockets,” said the legislator.

He accused some county revenue collectors for failing to identify themselves while on duty.

“Tax collectors should have job identification card and be in uniform so that traders can be sure that they are not giving out the money as tax to fraudsters who are out to con hardworking traders,” said the MP.

He called on Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu to rein on his officers and guide them on how they should handle traders who are major stakeholders in the county’s revenue generation.

Wainaina was speaking at Makongeni area on Wednesday.
