Kathiani MP Robert Mbui has asked the police to step up security to ensure his constituents are effectively protected.

Mbui said police were to blame for increased security lapse in the constituency.

He said police officers in Kathiani had totally failed the residents as far as security in concerned.

Mbui claimed police had failed to arrest criminals involved in various murder incidences in the constituency, a situation that has made locals live in fear.

"Kathiani is no place to idle. The police should provide security to the people since they are paid for that, it seems they are sleeping on the job," Mbui said.

He adressed the public during a burial ceremony of a 20 year old bodaboda operator in Kathiani, Machakos County on Saturday.

The deceased was reportedly murdered by uknown assaillants a week ago.

Mbui criticized local leaders for remaining silent on increased insecurity in the region.On Friday night's incident where a watchman was murdered and another seriously injured by armed robbers, Mbui said the police should have responded to the screams during the attack since a police post is stone throw away."The police should have responded last night since Nzaikoni Police post is not far from my office," Mbui added. The guard who sustained serious injuries was reportedly manning the legislators office during the attack .
