Police in Kiambu have been accused of taking too long to arrest people who attacked two Murang'a MCAs and a Jubilee Party official last week.

The three were attacked when county assembly strategy meeting at Sahara West Hotel in Ruaka last Friday turned chaotic, leaving them with injuries.

Nahashon Gachuhi (Gatanga), Gerald Wambugu (Kamacharia) and JP Deputy Secretary-General Charles Njoroge were taken to hospital where they were treated and discharged.

They reported the incident at Runda Police Station on the same day.

Speaking to the Standard on Tuesday, they said they were unhappy with the way police were handling the matter.

"I wonder why the police are taking so long to arrest the goons who nearly killed us," said Gachuhi.

He claimed the attackers had been hired by a Murang'a MCA who lives in the area.

"The goons must be arrested and charged in court for attacking us. The police should use the video recording of the attack to nab them," Gachuhi said, adding he was robbed of a mobile phone and Sh17,000.

Njoroge said the police who were present at the venue during the fracas should be punished for failing to act.

"It is obvious the police were compromised, otherwise the attack would not have happened. They just watched as the criminals attacked us," the JP official told the local daily.
