Mutua said the sugar puts lives of Kenyans at risk.

He took to social media where he shares his concern.

"I am CONCERNED about this MERCURY laced sugar scandal. All of us - from the PRESIDENT, his family, to innocent Kenyans (children, youth, mothers and fathers) may just have been sentenced to EARLY and PAINFUL DEATHS by a few greedy people. Very SCARY & Unacceptable.  We must save Kenya!" he posted on his Facebook page.

Over 2000 bags of contraband sugar were nabbed at Matuu market in Machakos County on Saturday.

Machakos county commissioner Matilda Sakwa said the government is committed to cracking down on the illicit trade in the county and its neighborhoods.

Sakwa said police had launched man hunt on the culprits behind the seized sugar.

“After we got information from a reliable source, we dispatched security officers to the scene and found loads of sugar and oil cooking being offloaded from a lorry into the warehouse,” Sakwa said.

She addressed the press at the scene during the operations on Saturday.
