Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua is no doubt a happy man after President Uhuru Kenyatta backed his call for the audit of all senior government officials.

Speaking during his visit to Mombasa County on Thursday, President Uhuru said all officials will undergo lifestyle audit as the fight of corruption continues.

The president warned public officers against abuse of office.

“Corruption must end and those trying to politicise the issue will not succeed.  A thief is a thief, he has no tribe. You cannot use your tribe to shield and justify yourself. We cannot afford to trivialize graft by politicking,” President Kenyatta said.

Mutua has been on the forefront in the call for public audit.

He has been urging the president to fight corruption by all means.

“Those stealing are near you and are maligning your name through their actions. Deal with them ruthlessly and show Kenyans there are no sacred cows in your administration,” Mutua had earlier told President Kenyatta.

President Kenyatta said a stern action will be taken against those found guilty of committing the offense.

The order comes after the arrest of several officers from the National Youth Service (NYS) over the alleged loss of Sh9 billion.

The President has reaffirmed that he will continue to protect public resources as long as he is still in power.
