Halo

Please hide my name. I stay in Makina area of Kibera with my husband of six years and our three kids. The first born is five while the twins are seventeen months.

Our marriage has been great since we moved in. We have been struggling through our tough economical times together. But from June last year my husband started a trend where he would come home and turn violent against me at the slightest provocation. The violence has continued for some time and now he beats me up almost every day. I have thought of leaving him but I look at the small children and realise that they must be raised with a father and mother. Moreso, I still love him.

What should I do? Please help.

Hi there.

Sorry for your predicament.

However, your problem here seems to be self-inflicted. While violence is a criminal act that should be punished by jail, you bear a bigger part of the blame for staying a second longer in an abusive relationship. Why did you even present yourself for the second beating? June to January are seven months of good punching and kicking. The fact that you still love your Prince Charming means you should perhaps stay a little more until he knocks out a tooth or two from you. Otherwise, go to the police and move away before he kills you and your kids.
