Nakumatt’s troubles seem to be heating up after its Likoni branch landlord moved to court seeking an order for the firm to pay all outstanding rent and service arrears which is standing at Sh59.7 million as at November 14, 2017.

Nova holdings Limited also wants the supermarket to vacate immediately within 3 days from when the order is issued.

The landlord through his lawyer Willis Oluga argued that Nakumatt is in breach of the lease agreement dated March 20, 2014.

The lawyer said the supermarket in many occasions defaulted on rent and service charge when due and should lose possession of the premises with effect.

This comes even after Tuskeys Supermarkets management signed a deal last year to revive the once giant retailer in the country.

Tuskeys has taken of branches owned by Nakumatt in Kisii now Tuskeys Echiro branch and Kisumu.

Nakumatt workers have also been forced to go for several months without monthly salaries on claims that there is no money for them to be paid.

Several Nakumatt branches across the country have been closed down over huge rent balances.
