Samuel Arama of Nakuru Town West said some MPs have brought the bill to parliament so that they are paid for their full terms in office.

“I am always ready for elections but the constitution which we promulgated only four years ago indicates that the polls should be held in August every five years,” the outspoken ODM legislator said.

“Experts and consensus was used to reach that month which a few people now want to change.”

The lawmaker said that the constitution is very clear on dates and hit out at colleagues saying that August disrupts the schools' academic programme.

Arama cautioned those eyeing the Nakuru Town West parliamentary seat not to start what he termed as premature campaigns.

He urged that they wait for 2017 polls and desist from activities that would disrupt his first term in office.

“Let my opponents wait until 2017 when we shall all participate in the vote and not interfere with my focus on the development of the constituency,” Arama said.
