Nakuru police this morning shot dead two suspected gangsters suspected of planning to hijack a cash-in-transit vehicle heading to Naivasha from Nakuru town.

Confirming the incidence area OCPD Bernard Kioko said the gang members were killed around Soysambu area along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

Kioko said that the suspects were in a Toyota saloon vehicle that however had unmatched registration number plates on the front and back slots.

"The vehicle's registration was shown to be KBJ 227B but on the vehicle's windows they were displayed as KBU 412D", added the OCPD.

The police commandant intimated that they were acting on intelligence reports and they had been on the group’s trail for the last fortnight.

The reports had indicated that they intended to car-jack a vehicle transporting money from the Nakuru branch of the Central bank of Kenya to a Naivasha bank.

The officer said the gangsters began their mission this morning by attempting to hijack a lorry was carrying electronic goods from Mombasa to Kampala at Soysambu. The pair were subsequently lilled during the fire exchange that ensued.

Mr. Kioko revealed that the suspects were clad in police-like fatigues adding that his officers managed to recover an AK-47 assault rifle, five bullets, an axe, a hacksaw and a machete from the gang.

The bodies of the deceaseds have been taken to the Nakuru County Mortuary  meanwhile investigations have been heightened to nab accomplices of the gangsters who are believed to be still within Nakuru town.

The incident caused a massive traffic snarl up along the major highway with Kioko warning those thugs still at large that their days are numbered.
