National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) has started paying farmers who delivered their maize.

According to  (NCPB) spokesman Titus Maiyo, farmers can now access their payment.

"We have distributed sh 2.2 billion to pay farmers who delivered maize to our different depots in the country. We had some few problems but it has now been solved and they will be getting their payments promptly," he said in Eldoret town, Wednesday.

"So far we have received 945,000 bags of maize across the country and we urge more farmers to bring their produce and avoiding selling them to middlemen at a throwaway price," he added.

He, however, refuted claims that NCPB was buying maize from Uganda terming them as rumors that don't carry any water.

"We are not buying any maize from Uganda, Millers are the ones who have imported the maize and what we are doing is storing for them," noted Maiyo.

This comes after farmers from the North rift decried delayed payment after delivering their maize and also saying that the government was importing maize instead of buying theirs.
