Doctors in Nyamira have threatened to go on strike because the county government has failed to fulfill its pledge on promotion.According to Nyamira County branch Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union official Lamech Omweri, if the county governor John Nyagarama won't step in within two weeks, they will proceed with the industrial action.“We have been ignored despite having raised the issue to those concerned. We are tired of the empty promises and we only have 14 days to dialogue failure to which we will go on strike," Omweri.Omweri who is also Nyanza region KMPDU chairman said they held meetings in past to solve the issue but in vain.“The numerous meetings we have been holding have not given fruits. We will boycott job so that our grievances can be addressed," he added. The official noted few doctors have been promoted in the past few years contrary to what they agreed."We are not motivated because a few of the doctors have been promoted yet we agreed those who deserve promotion should be promoted without delay," he said.Omweri said the increased population in the county needs more doctors because the 58 doctors currently offering services are not enough."58 doctors are few to provide quality services to the people. Sometimes the available doctors are forced to overwork to give services and we won't allow this anymore," he stated.
