The governor described the deputy president as a friend of his people and there was nothing that could prevent them from working with them.

''You are our friend and I believe that we can work together moving forward. It is possible and it can be done,'' Dhadho said in Garsen.

Godhana said that it was time for his region to front its candidate, an indication that the region might not support Raila's bid should he choose to run in 2022.

The endorsement, although not a resounding one, will doubtless come as a shocker to opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Dhadho has been a longtime member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

He upstaged his predecessor Hussein Dado in the August 8 elections.
