In a press conference, the outspoken legislator urged Raila to pay the debt that he owed the sugar company that at the time was in dire straits.

Duale's claims did not sit well with Mr Odinga who filed a suit at the High Court, seeking damages for defamation.

In the suit, Odinga rebuffed claims that he owed Mumias Sugar Company and said Duale's claims were injurious to his character and reputation.

Odinga also sought an injunction to stop Duale from repeating the claims.

In the wake of the filing of the suit, Duale said that he was not afraid and was ready for a legal battle.

Mumias Sugar Company had been tettering on the edge of collapse.

Speaking at a political rally, Odinga said that he owed the cash-strapped company no money, not even a penny.
