The troubled Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission was thrown into further confusion following the decision by three of the commissioners to resign after weeks of tension that have rocked the Wafula Chebukati-led poll body.
Monday, Commissioners Consolata Maina, Margaret Mwachanya and Paul Kurgat announced their decision to leave office protesting chairman Wafula Chebukati's alleged perilous leadership.
Their resignation comes barely a week after the commission's CEO Ezra Chiloba was sent on forced leave by the chairman. The Court declined to overturn the decision to send him home.
While hitting out at the commissioners, ODM politician David Osiany blamed them for allegedly becoming politically partisan something he said has affected the the independence of the offices they hold.
" If you are appointed to an independent commission please be independent. Do not work or resign at the behest of a political hand or puppeteer at the background. The infightings boil down to personal interests," said the vocal politician during an interview on Citizen TV.
Constitutionslly, the IEBC has been rendered dysfunctional over lack of quorum.
