[Photo/nation.co.ke]The government has expressed concerns over the high number of students studying various medical related courses outside the country.Director of human resource and development at the Ministry of Health Dr. David Njoroge says parents are using a lot of money to train their children outside the country.Speaking in Eldoret town on Friday during the 7th graduation ceremony for the Moi Teaching and Teaching and Referral Hospital College of Health Sciences, Dr. Njoroge asked institutions offering medical courses to consider offering programs that meet the dynamics of a competitive job market. He also called for regular curriculum review to accommodate rapid changes in the health sector."A lot of money is being used to train students in countries like South Africa, Egypt, Zimbabwe among others and I don't know why that should be happening here in Kenya," noted Dr. Njoroge."This should be a wake-up call for our institutions to focus on offering competitive quality health workers training programs that are up to date with the global market," he added.Dr. Njoroge further reaffirmed the government's commitment to allocating adequate resources to public institutions training health workers."We need more health workers to achieve universal health services but this can only happen if our institutions produce well trained medical personnel," he added.
