One person has died while four others sustained serious injuries after the vehicles they were traveling in got involved in road accident along the Thika-Garissa Highway.
The 2.00am incident occurred at Kyaani in Yatta, Machakos County on Saturday morning.
It involved a pick up and hit and run vehicle.
Yatta Police boss Edward Changach said the pick up which was headed to Mwingi town during the accident was hit from the opposite direction by unknown vehicle.
"The accident happened near Kyaani Primary School and due to the impact, a male passenger perished and four others sustained serious injuries," Changach said.
Changach said one of the passengers died on the spot while others were rushed to Matuu Level Four Hospital for treatment.
The body of the deceased was moved to Marry Mediance Mortuary.
Changach said police had launched investigations into the incident.
He said they were hunting for the hit and run vehicle.
Changach appealed to members of the public who might have witnessed the accident to give information and help in investigations.
"I urge anyone with valid information about the accident to volunteer to the police in aiding arrest of the perpetrator who escaped," Changach said.
