Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has threatened to close down all private clinics operating near public health centers.

The county boss claimed that the private clinic owners were collaborating with doctors and nurses at the public health facilities to steal drugs.

"I will not tolerate private clinic owners who open their private clinics near public facilities," he said.

 He said that the county had invested a lot on the health sector so as residents access medical services. 

He askes those owning private hospitals to report any public worker selling drugs to them. 

“Patients seeking health services at private clinics may not heal because the drugs being used there have been stolen," he said.

Those operating the private clinics should purchase their own drugs to curb theft of drugs from public health centers,” he added. 

He said local dispensaries will be stocked with drugs to enable residents in deep villages get access to affordable and proper medical care.
