Ongwae has said that Kisii residents depend on agriculture and, therefore, his government will offer the necessary support to all farmers to grow crops which will give high yields.

“Kisii county locals depend on farming. My government is committed to ensuring that farmers get access to affordable fertilizers and quality seeds in order to realize high yields during harvesting,” he said on Monday in Kisii town.

The governor warned the county agriculture department officials against diverting funds meant to buy fertilizers and seeds to their own pockets.

“I am calling on MCAs to ensure more funds are allocated to the agriculture docket when they will pass the 2018/2019 budget. Agriculture is the backbone of Kisii County economy,” he added.

He challenged agricultural extension officers visit the grassroots to sensitize Kisii residents on the need to use modern farming techniques as a way of realizing good yields.

Ongwae urged farmers to grow crops which are resistance to drought and use recommended pesticides to keep off worms from invading farms.

In the meantime, Ongwae said that his government will spend more resources on prevention of corruption by focusing on civic education to curb the high number of corruption cases recorded in the county recently.

Speaking when he hosted Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, EACC CEO, Halakhe Waqo and Commissioner Dr Dabar Maalim, Ongwae said he is committed to ensuring zero cases of corruption cases are reported in the county.

“The county will spend more to hold public forums to educate Kisii residents, county workers and other stakeholders the dangers of corruption," he said
