On Tuesday, Orengo replaced Wetangula following a decision by at least 19 senators who participated in an election.

While appearing on a local TV moments after taking office, Orengo absolved ODM senators from any wrong doing.

"Election of Minority Leader is a prerogative of the Parliamentary Group and that is anchored in the Standing Orders," said.

While bashing a purported MoU between NASA affiliates, Orengo said: "We agreed to share positions based on the strength of the party."

Both Wiper, Ford Kenya and ANC have accused ODM of breaching the agreement forming NASA, despite Raila Odinga's continued silence over the matter.

At a function in Kisii last week, Raila, whose party enjoys majority in the coalition, had promised to address the matter urgently, but his input is yet to materialise.
