Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo is undoubtedly one of the most popular politicians in the country thanks to his brand of politics which is development-oriented.
The Rarieda man became a darling of many after his impressive performance in the Supreme Court during the 2017 presidential petition filed by NASA leader Raila Odinga. To confirm that he is one of the smartest legal brains in the country, the former Ombudsman successfully challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta's win.But even before he tried his luck in politics, it was his meeting with former USA President Barack Obama that that shaped his political future.Then serving as Illinois Senator, Obama had visited Kenya in 2006 and then in his early 30s and as a practising young lawyer, Otiende Amollo got a rare opportunity to engage the future President on many issues affecting Kenya. That became the turning point in his political life.
" After the formal meeting, Obama called me aside and interestingly told me that he thought that,given my perspectives and insights, I would make a good politician," Otiende Amolo was once quoted by the Standard.
The young lawyer would later get another opportunity to meet the former President in US where he was encouraged to join politics even if he had no resources and name to mount serious campaign.
Though he never contested a political seat immediately, Amollo threw the hat into the ring in 2017 and resoundingly won the Rarieda seat. Since then, he has been a political success and is seen as the future of Nyanza politics.
