The Kenya National Parents Association (KNPA) chairman Nicholas Maiyo has supported the move by CS Fred Matiangi of facilitating direct distribution of textbooks to schools.

He said this will save parents the burden of buying books for their children.

"As parents, we support this move 100 percent since some principals despite them being given the funds to purchase books they used it for their own projects, but with this new system case's of students sharing books will be a thing of the past," he said in Eldoret town, Wednesday.

"Every student will now have a book and the government will also save Sh13 billion since they will only use Sh7 billion instead of Sh 21 billion. It will reduce corruption by 100 percent," he added.

He, however, urged Jubilee government through Teachers Service Commission to deploy more teachers for the free secondary school scheduled for January to be successful.

"We applaud the Jubilee government for this move but we urge them to put more funds for teachers to be recruited, we don't want a situation where our students will be given quantity instead of quality education," noted Maiyo.
