Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is set to work with the regulatory authority to enhance training in thematic areas.

This will lead to the university students benefitting from the Kenya Federation of Master Builders (KFMB) arrangement to offer industrial attachments and internships.

JKUAT and KFMB have partnered with the National Construction Authority (NCA) to strengthen and enhance Kenya’s construction industry through technical and vocational training. 

Speaking on Thursday during the agreement signing ceremony at JKUAT main campus, Juja,  Daniel Manduku, NCA Executive Director, praised the partnership, noting stating that it would foster quality in the sector which continuously being eyed by  investors who vent interest despite the skills gaps currently being experienced.

His authority will work closely with the JKUAT to come up with new and innovative programmes to cater for the current needs of the industry.

“We have a plan to train one million artisans across the country and we can only achieve this by fostering our human capital. This is why our partnership with JKUAT is important,” Manduku said.

JKUAT Vice Chancellor Prof Mabel Imbuga expressed confidence in the initiative noting that it will improve overall quality of training in the construction related fields. JKUAT had a standing history of producing resource persons in architecture, building sciences and engineering; and that the partnership would further enhance training and research in the varsity’s programmes.

KFMB National Chairperson Moses Muhia assured of the readiness of his agency to provide industry exposure to students as a way of enhancing quality of graduates.

KFMB will also provide industrial laboratories to track and test new methods, trends and technologies needed in the construction industry.
