With the conversation about the 2022 presidential race already heating up, and leaders declaring interest in the post, a similar debate is gathering speed in Nakuru.

Currently under the leadership of Governor Lee Kinyanjui, the topic about his fate, upon the completion of his first term, remains a top topic in Nakuru.

The Governor is likely to make attempts to defend his seat, with a possible challenge expected to come from the Nakuru Town East lawmaker David Gikaria who announced that he will be eyeing the post in 2022.

The county Senator Susan Kihika is also not to be downplayed. With politics being an upward spiral, the young Senator will further complicate the race should she decide to join.

The opposition has also always tried its luck in the post, fronting Lawrence Bomett on an Orange Party ticket in 2013 and Peter Koros of Mashinani Party in last year, the block's entrance could further toughen the race in 2022.

Parliamentary positions are in the same category, with Nakuru East, for instance, is expected to witness a clash between ODM's Issa Okello and former Mayor Benson Wangai, both of whom have had unsuccessful shots at the post in the past races.

But politics is an unpredictable game whose result can only be announced after the final whistle and the people's choice will only be unveiled upon the conclusion of the contest.
