Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has said impeachment or resignation of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko will affect the City county in different ways.

Kilonzo said there would be a by-election in Nairobi County if the governor leaves office or is forced out.

He said the Jubilee Party which sponsored Sonko to the gubernatorial position has the majority in both the Senate and Nairobi County Assembly.

“There is more than meets the eye in the charade in Nairobi County. Things are falling apart fast and furious. If the Governor resigns or is impeached, Nairobi will go back to the ballot. Jubilee party has the majority in the county and Senate,” Kilonzo tweeted on Friday.

On his part, Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe said Sonko was creating room for his impeachment.

The duo made the statements barely a week since the governor appointed self-proclaimed National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader Miguna Miguna as his deputy.

“Sonko is forestalling his impeachment which has nothing to do with the DG’s position but his administration’s dismal performance," Murathe said.

Kilonzo said the governor was covering up his mistakes by trying to divert Kenyan's attention.

"His nomination of Miguna is of no significance,” Murathe said.
