Kalonzo said the police boss was committed to delivering his duties diligently before he met his tragic death.

Uhuru also hailed the deceased for the role he played in changing the country during his years in service.

The police chief drowned with his younger brother Paul Kimuyu in Kwa Kaluku River along Sultan Hamud-Kasikeu road in Makueni County

“He discharged his responsibilities with remarkable diligence and devotion which only a few days ago deservedly earned him the appointment as the commanding officer of the Diplomatic Police Unit,” said President Kenyatta in a condolence message read by Makueni County Commissioner Maalim Mohammed.

“We shall forever be thankful for his dedication to duty and the pride with which he served our nation,” Uhuru added.

Makueni County Assembly Speaker Douglas Mbilu said leaders from the region will continue with the fight against sand harvesting in honor of the deceased.

"We should, therefore, commit to furthering the fight against sand harvesting in Makueni County in Mr Mwau’s honor,” Mbilu said.
