Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has sent his condolences following the death of Professor Douglas Odhiambo.

The Professor succumbed to stroke on Monday June 18, 2018 at Avenue Hospital, in Kisumu, a week after he was admitted to the facility.

“Prof Douglas Odhiambo who died last week belonged in the increasingly outnumbered lot of scholars who believe in their role in society to search for, generate and disseminate knowledge,” Raila Odinga poster his Twitter handle.

“It is not a surprise that Prof was still studying as he was taken ill never to recover," he added.

Professor Odhiambo was Moi University’s first Vice-Chancellor, when the institution of higher learning was established in 1984.

He was part of the team that structured the 8-4-4 system of education used in the country.  He also participated in the structuring  of the current 2-6-3-3-3 education system. 

The Professor died aged 89 years. At the time of his death, the father of six was the first Chancellor of Technical University of Mombasa, having been appointed in 2013 by former President, Mwai Kibaki. 

The requiem mass for the late Professor will be conducted on Thursday June 28, 2018 at Stephen’s Church in Kisumu.

He will be laid to rest on Friday June 29, 2018 in Migori County.
