Despite their closeness with ODM protagonist Raila Odinga, the two have been under pressure to quit office over what residents call sluggish development.

On Wednesday, a host of Nyamira County residents issued governor John Nyagaram, who is in the US for treatment, a week to resign over incompetence and grand corruption.

"The governor has lost moral authority to lead. It is to the interest of the country for him to quit in seven days time," said Jared Onsanse.

Also, the governor is accused of failing to dewhip a few political operatives close to him who have allegedly held the county hostage.

But barely two hours after the alarm, cabinet suspended Deputy Chief of Staff Kefa Mocheche, a close confidant of the governor.

In Homa Bay, Governor Cyprian Awiti, whose victory was nullified by High Court, is also under immense pressure to resign.

For years now, locals have been accusing him of grass violation of the constitution and grand corruption.
