The second in command was in the region to distribute relief food to residents of Tana River and Kilifi counties.

Kingi and his Mombasa counterpart Ali Hassan Joho were among the fiercest critics of the Jubilee regime during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s  first term in office.

The two were accusing the current government of sidelining residents of the region.

The county boss asked Ruto to come on whether he is ready to back a candidate from the region to ascend to power when that time comes.

“I want to tell our legislators that you have talked of supporting DP Ruto for the Presidency in 2022 but you have not asked him about his stand. Perhaps, he would also like to support a presidential candidate from the Coast. We have not asked him, have we?” asked Mr Kingi.

Several leaders from the region have pledged to back Ruto as he seeks to succeed President Uhuru after he ends his term in office.
