Kangundo sub-county probation officer Fridah Mumbua said probation offices play great roles in ensuring that offenders don't repeat their offenses in future.

"A lot of residents don't even know if this office exists and neither do they know it's function," Mumbua said.

Mumbua spoke to this writer at her office in Kangundo Sub County on Monday.

She told the locals to familiarize themselves with her office so as to know its importance in the society.

Mumbua said most residents are not enlightened on the benefits or work of the Probation Department mostly in facilitating the integration of offenders back into the society.

She urged the residents to accept and embrace the recently freed prisoners in a bid to ensure they fit back in the community.

Mumbua said stigmatization has made several offenders find it difficult to fit back in the society or continue with their lives.

She said everyone makes mistakes hence should have the heart to accept an offender back without criticism or stigma.

"No one is holier than thou, the society should make it easier for offenders trying to fix their life after a jail term," Mumbua said.
