Addressing the press in his environment offices, he urged residents to look for safer grounds, which are not prone to the menace.

He mentioned areas of South Mugirango and Kitutu Chache, where urged locals to move to safer areas to avoid loss of lives and even destruction of property.

“We have regions that were hardly hit with the prolonged drought like South Mugirango and Kitutu Chache, they are notorious when it comes to landslides. We are appealing to the locals to take safety measures in a bid to avert such impending calamities in the near future,” said Bokea.

Bokea further urged locals to embrace planting of water friendly trees, after the common blue gum tree was said to be affecting water catchment areas negatively.

“Blue gum trees contributed a lot to the drying of two rivers in the area namely, River Nyanturago and Ragare, we had to cut them down for the well being of the locals,” he added.

Justus Murago, the area chief, urged the relevant authorities to help giving out a long lasting solution so that people will not keep shifting from one region to the other.

“Locals will find it difficult to keep migrating from one area to another; therefore the county government should ensure that they give out a long lasting solution,” said Murago.
