Nyanza region with an approximated voter population of 3 million people has traditionally backed Raila, who has lost four presidential elections according to IEBC.

And with Raila being keen to have Ruto miss the trophy, the DP has initiated a massive vote hunt in the region that could turn it into swing.

"He is keen to neutralise Nyanza region and one of the strategies is to completely take Nyamira and Kisii counties away from Raila.

"The strategy will see him also take part of Migori (Kuria) before targeting influential politicians who ran as independents in Luo Nyanza," said a Nyamira MP who spoke in confidence.

Both Kisii, Nyamira and Kuria regions have an approximated voter population of 1.2 million people.

For the strategy to work, Ruto has reportedly mobilised top politicians from the region whom he has tasked to organise Harambees in churches and schools.

With Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i being one of his strategists, the DP is also targeting several development projects before reaching the respective communities elders for endorsement.

On Friday, the DP is expected to attend several rallies in Kisii where he is expected to be joined by leaders from both Nyamira and Migori.
