A meeting scheduled at Raila Odinga's office was abandoned after ODM senators refused to obey their boss's order, leading to Wetangula's removal.

Sources privy to the details on last minutes to save Wetangula say, only James Orengo, the leader of the coup showed up later at Panafric Hotel, where a disillusioned Raila had moved to.

"They refused to attend Raila's meeting on grounds that he would defend Wetangula. They accused him of being diplomatic on issues that matter," an ODM official said.

The official, who spoke in confidence, added: "To frustrate him, they kept him waiting and eventually ratified the ouster without his input."

Efforts to rescue Wetangula after replacement with Orengo continued on Thursday will Raila calling for senators retreat within two weeks to resolve the matter.

So compelling is the matter, that a host of Western Kenya leaders have threatened to blacklist Raila, accusing him of orchestrating Wetangula's woes.
