The golden handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga could collapse due to ongoing fights over calls for referendum.

A spirited Deputy President William Ruto has maintained that the country is not ready for the referendum even as ODM wing continues to push for radical changes.

"Do not kill a messenger. Just don't be quick to dismiss the message before internalizing it," senator Orengo told Ruto on Tuesday.

But in a quick rejoinder, Ruto dismissed referendum calls insisting that the debate was being initiated by 'lazy and incompetent people'.

"Lazy people who don't want to work hard and incompetent people who can't formulate programmes and those who lose elections wants to use constitution as their bogey man," he said.

Slightly over a month ago, Raila insisted that for the country to restore equity, and inclusiveness, certain changes must be made whether 'Ruto likes it or not'.

It is believed that Raila may have agreed with Uhuru, who has since distanced himself from the controversial debate, to introduce parliamentary system of government.
