North Rift Economic Bloc (Noreb) chairman Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago is pushing for the improvement of cellular service in the Kerio Valley belt.
This comes even as ethnic clashes instigated by cattle rustling rock Marakwet-Pokot-Turkana boundaries.
Mandago says poor mobile network service, especially in the valley belt, is largely blamed to hamper security response in the areas.
He asked officials from mobile telco giant, Safaricom, to work on improvement of service in parts of North Rift regions, especially Kerio Valley.
Speaking as has he hosted Safaricom's officials on a courtesy visit, led by Director of Strategy and Innovation Joseph Ogutu, Mandago said the company may realize big business prospects as it budgets to improve the network in the said areas.
Mandago is the chairman of NOREB, a trade bloc that brings close eight counties who bank on tourism, sports tourism and agriculture to create investments.Insecurity in parts of the region certainly threatens to choke investment.
The company's officials said their budgetary allocation under Security Service, has taken into consideration the region.
The plan budgets for the establishment of infrastructure in areas where security is of concern.
Safaricom officials also said that the call center that has been established in Eldoret will greatly benefit residents of Uasin Gishu County.
The investment is a billion shilling project. The firm has established its second-biggest call center, at Eldoret's Rupa Mall. About 600 direct and another 400 indirect employment will be created.
