Isaac Mwaura (Nominated) said during an interview on Radio Jambo on Saturday that the development will negatively affect the economy of Kiambu and lead to unemployment.

"It s totally wrong to make such a decision bearing in mind that thousands of residents of Kiambu depend on such busienesses to survive," Mwaura who unsuccessfully contested for the Ruiru parliamentary seat during the August 8 general election said.

"There has to be a moderate way of doing this," he added.

Matiang'i on Thursday while in the company of Waititu allegedly ordered all bars in the county to be closed as the government steps up efforts to fight against alcoholism and the sale of substandard beer.

Matiangi has since denied the accusations.

In the ban, the government ordered bar owners to apply afresh licences after being vetted to prevent the establishment of illegal entertainment joints in Kiambu County.

Kiambu, according to the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) is among counties with the highest rate of alcohol consumption.
