The second-year student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Education and Arts at the main campus was earlier this week beaten up by angry students after they realized she had been tricking them. The female student only identified as Cheryl lives within the university-in Kenyatta Market, popularly known as KM. She lives in an expensive, standard bedsitter which reportedly, she struggles to pay.It is not yet clear if it is her parents who pay the rent or she pays it herself. After receiving a notice from her landlord for failing to meet the deadline for rent payment set at the 10th day of every month, she hatched a plan to fake sickness so that her good neighbors and friends could help raise her medication fee.  She lied that she was suffering from stomach ulcers and needed financial assistance for her to see a specialist. She did not want to seek treatment at the university’s health unit. After receiving enough money from comrades, Cheryl cleared her outstanding rental dues, a move that sparked more trouble.A day after she had cleared the rent, her colleagues were surprised to see her acting very normal like nothing had happened, which raised suspicion. They requested her to produce a medical report from the doctor but she could not since it was all a ploy to get money."They demanded their money back after she failed to produce any documents from the doctor, and because she had used the money to pay the rent, they started beating her up," said James, a student at Kenyatta University pursuing the same course as Cheryl. Interestingly, Cheryl’s neighbours also joined the students in beating her up after they realised she had duped them too."Her neighbours started shouting, 'atafute sponsor ama aende aishe nyumba wazazi wataeza kulipa rent' after they after they found out she had also lied to them about the sickness," added James.#bizarre
