Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko insists resignation of his deputy, Polycarp Igathe, will not affect delivery of services to his constituents.

In unprecedented move on Friday, Igathe resigned citing lack of trust from his boss despite having spent the entire day defending City Hall at NTV.

"We shall ensure our pledges to Nairobi people are met. We may be having a few challenges but trust me we shall succeed," he said prior to resignation.

Prior to August polls, President Uhuru Kenyatta had recommended Igathe to handle management of the county with Sonko taking over political component.

But an agitated Sonko, sources said, may have been uncomfortable with alleged remote control from State House thus his rebellion.

"I have professors with me and other elected leaders around. I have also been a senator and an MP and God is there. Work shall continue," insisted Sonko.

Last month, a local daily reported of mistrust between the two with Sonko believed to have opposed plot to have State House operatives run the show in Nairobi.

And at Mombasa, Sonko also maintained that he was ready to work with leaders from the rival NASA coalition.
