Kenya National Union of Teachers Secretary General Wilson Sossion has urged teachers to embrace the new curriculum.

The new system was rolled out yesterday and is expected to phase out 8-4-4 system by the year 2027.

Sossion's decision comes as surprise considering that he had opposed the system stating that teachers had not been adequately trained.

He called for more research before the system could be implemented.

Speaking on Wednesday, Sossion said that the union was satisfied with the rollout programme.

His decisiojn comes just a day after the unions held talks with the ministry of education officials on Tuesday at Jogoo house.

Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi has assured Kenyans that the rollout of the new curriculum in on course.

"I have seen reports in the media indicating the new curriculum is hanging in the balance. I categorically say there is nothing like hanging. The plan for the implementation remains as drawn," he told a press briefing.

The Cabinet Secretary said the curriculum will be implemented in phases instead of a switch off-switch on affair.

"For the last two years the steering committee has been in wide consultations. So far we have already trained 170,000 teachers on materials for grades one and two," he said.
