Nairobi speaker Beatrice Elachi has said she will support Governor Mike Sonko even after the resignation of Polycarp Igathe as deputy governor.

Terming the resignation as unfortunate, Elachi however insisted that county operations must go on as they had a mandate to deliver their pledges to the people of Nairobi.

She said that leaders need to put aside their bad blood and remain on course to serving Nairobians.

“These things happen politically and it depends on how people look at it," she said.

"For me, I know the governor has been doing good work and I believe that he has a strong back room that will support him since there is no provision in law for the replacement of a deputy governor,” she added.

There has been talk of the county government heading for a collapse with a speculated sabotage of Sonko from State House.

Since the law doesn't put pressure on Sonko over choosing of another deputy governor, Elachi will be expected to work closer to the governor as the speaker and deputy governor are the other key figures in any county government.
