The management of a secondary school in Nakuru County has defended the decision to close the institution abruptly.

The manager of St Georges Greenland Senior Boys' School in Bahati said his move was motivated by the high rate of indiscipline among the students.

George Gichimu, the school proprietor, said he could no longer contain boys at the institution, adding he would only enroll girls.

"Boys at the school have been indiscipline, we cannot handle them. They go as far as beating teachers. We have been very patient with them but they cannot change," he said on Wednesday.

The school was closed at a time students were reporting for the first term.

Many students and parents claim the management did not notify them of the closure, leaving them stranded.

When asked why he closed the school abruptly without informing the stakeholders, Gichimu told The Standard that the institution was a private property and he had a right to develop it according to his wish.

"This is my property and I can do with it whatever I want," he said, adding he had refunded the parents their money and assisted some students to enroll in new schools.
