A man suspected to be a motorbike thief was on Monday lynched to death by an angry mob at Keroka in Kisii County.

Witnesses said the suspect who is yet to be identified hails from Ribwago area where he stole the first motorbike.

“He was arrested and jailed for stealing a motorbike from his home area at Ribwago area in Rigoma. He escaped from Kisii prison and went into hiding in Kericho before he returned back and stole a second motorbike in Keroka,” said Joseph Matundura, a resident.

Matundura said angry boda-boda riders arrested the suspect and set him on fire using tyres.

Efforts by police to rescue the suspect from the angry riders did not bore fruits.

The deceased body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
