Angry residents said the man known as Bwogi has been stealing hens, bananas among other minor things in the area.

“The man was found with a stolen hen that he wanted to sell at a local bar. When he was questioned by residents he failed to explain where he got the hen and started running away before the angry locals arrested him and beat him to death,” said Hesbon Momanyi, a witness.

John Orang’i an area Nyumba Kumi official said the deceased has been warned against theft but he could not hear.

“We warned the deceased against theft but he could not listen to us. He has been breaking into people’s houses to steal household items such as utensils, television sets, hoofers, gas cylinders,” said Mr Orang’i.

He, however, warned residents against taking the law into their hands.

“Even criminals are protected by the law. Residents should surrender criminals to police to be taken to court and not killing them,” he noted.

He added that stolen items were recovered from the man’s house.

“Residents recovered their stolen items at the deceased house. Criminals should surrender to police or stop stealing people’s property before the law will catch up with them,” said the official.

He said the deceased body was taken to Kisii Teaching Referral morgue.
