Four suspects in the brutal murder of Nakuru businessman Julius Kimani will stay behind bars till Tuesday next week after they failed to take plea.

A Nakuru high court said the four should undergo psychiatric examination before taking plea.

While issuing the directive on Wednesday,  Judge Roselyn Kirui directed that the five suspects be taken for mental test and be brought before the court on January 23 to take plea.

Justice Kirui further cancelled a Sh500,000 bond earlier granted by Judge Maureen Odero following a miscellaneous application filed by the defense.

The defense had filed the miscellaneous application seeking to have the suspects released on bond on grounds that they had been remanded for long at the central police station.

The suspects Gladys Wambui, Rahab Mukenyi, Alex Okwemba, James Mwaura and Nahashon Chegenye will therefore remain at central police station until awaiting Tuesday.

Before Judge Kirui delivered the ruling, defense counsels led by Wambeyi Makomere had demanded that the order earlier issued by Judge Maureen Odero be adhered to by releasing the suspects.

Julius Kimani, 37, was murdered late last month and his body dumped at Nakuru south cemetery.

His wife Gladys Wambui and staff Rahab Mukenyi are among the suspects.

Lawyer Wahome Thuku is representing the deceased’s family.
