Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i may have after all thwarted efforts to pass People's Assembly Bill in Nyamira County, a source privy to local politics has intimated.

Despite having a super majority in the assembly, NASA MCAs are yet to pass the crucial bill which is integral in inauguration of Raila Odinga as People's President at the end of the month.

"The bill won't be passed because Matiang'i met both Governor John Nyagarama, Speaker Moffat Teya and Majority Leader Duke Masaira, the source told the reporter in confidence.

With Nyagarama facing a petition on his election, he is believed to have gone slow on the separatist bill which does not recognize Uhuru Kenyatta's leadership.

And Matiang'i, says the source, promised to ensure Jubilee government is friendly with Nyagarama's regime and further sought support for 2022 gubernatorial race.

"He met them and convinced against passing of the bill. He is also keen to go for governorship seat in 2022."

Despite Masira promising to recall MCAs for a special sitting over Christmas, he is however yet to honour his promise.

ODM Chief Executive Oduor Ongwen has in December blasted Nyagarama and the assembly after they claimed the Secretariat had not issued them with the copy of the motion.

Considered as one of the most powerful minister, Matiang'i could be one of the few Cabinet Secretaries to survive Uhuru's onslaught.

Of the 36 MCAs, NASA enjoys the super majority of 20 MCAs, with ODM having a bulky (9) compared to other parties.
