The Kathiani MP Robert Mbui was admitted in hospital following beatings he received from police officers during the confrontation between NASA supporters and security agencies deployed to stop their presidential candidate Raila Odinga from addressing a public rally at Uhuru Park in Nairobi.

Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo, who was with her colleague during the procession of Raila's entourage from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport towards the city center, confirmed the MP's hospitalization via Facebook, as did lawyer Morris Kimuli.

"The story here is not about how Kathiani MP Hon. Mbui went down in this ditch for a cause, like a true patriot. It is about those hands reaching out to draw him from the ditch. Humanity is spontaneous. It needs no bidding. It is portraits like this that truly deserve the caption. 'I am my brother's keeper," Kimuli wrote in a Facebook post, accompanied by a photo from the event.

The police officer who beat the MP was not immediately identified, but the MP was reported to have hurt his leg.

The Wiper Democratic Movement party accused the UhuRuto government of the plan to assassinate the Mp terming the act as malicious.
