A picture of Uhuru, 26, doing a jig at the function appeared in the inside pages of the Standard newspaper and since it was the first time he was being seen in a public gathering, many paid attention to the article.

When the news item was drawn to the attention of retired President Daniel Arap Moi, who was ruling at the time, the Head of State sent a word to Uhuru and his mother Mama Ngina to meet him at the State House in Nairobi.

It is during the conversation between mother and son that Moi reportedly 'prophesied' that the young Kenyatta would one day become a President just like his father, Jomo.

"I am happy the young man has started showing interest in public affairs. Who knows, one day he might be the occupant of this place. Moi will not be here forever?" he stated.

This was not the last time Moi predicted that Uhuru would at one time occupy the house on the hill.

Former Cabinet Minister Joseph Kamotho, in an interview with veteran journalist Kamau Ngotho, recalled a moment in 2001 when he, alongside Uhuru had accompanied Moi to a tour of Central Kenya that the retired President hinted that the son the of founding Head of State would rise to power.

During a stop-over at Sagana in Kirinyaga county, Kamotho reported, Moi likened Uhuru to Joseph Kabila of Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who had some weeks earlier taken over power from his father Laurent Kabila.

"The young son of Kabila is now the President of the DRC. Who says this young man here Uhuru can't be President like his father?" he posed.

Moi nominated Uhuru to succeed him when he retired in 2002 but Uhuru was defeated by Mwai Kibaki of NARC.

However, Uhuru took over from Kibaki in 2013 to become the fourth President of Kenya.
