For many years now, Kalonzo has portrayed certain moves politically that have seen him run away from his people when they need him most. Many Kenyans have labelled Kalonzo Musyoka as an opportunist due to his political moves. This has made many people give him names such as a watermelon, opportunist and unprincipled.

Here are the reasons why people have lost confidence and trust in him:

1. 2007 ODM splitIn 2007, Kalonzo moved out of ODM when he realized then the party leader Raila Odinga won’t let him be the leader. He defected from his party when they needed him most and joined their fierce rivals. He joined Mwai Kibaki’s side with a good number of supporters.  He brought a divide in the opposition which resulted in their loss. To worsen the situation, he became Kibaki’s Vice President.

2. 2012 G Seven OutfitSeven members formed a political outfit to succeed Kibaki during the 2013 run-ups. However, due to disagreements of interests in the party, members had to part ways as none was ready to forgo his ambitions to fly the party's flag. Kalonzo’s exit was the most dramatic as he joined Raila and formed a coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD). However, UhuRuto beat them in the presidential elections.

3. Snubbing swearing inOn 30th January, both Raila and Musyoka were to take an oath as People’s President and Deputy. However, to the disappointment of the NASA supporters, Kalonzo missed that much awaited event. In his usual carton style, he held a press and told people that he had been placed under house arrest.

4. Misplaced dialogue callsKalonzo has been pushing for dialogue calls with the government. However, this was against the will of other NASA leaders who wanted Raila be sworn in as People’s President. More so, the NASA and Jubilee Party’s idea of dialogue are different.

5. EALA nomineesHis son Kennedy Musyoka was selected to the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) by the NASA coalition. This appointment was a clear sign of nepotism and personal interest portrayed by the Wiper leader. Apart from Kennedy’s competence, his nomination was never taken well from Kenyan.
