A section of traders of Dunga in Kisumu county has decried the demolition of property worth Sh6 million by the county government.

According to a local daily, the residents claimed that their property was brought down without a notice from the county government, which has left most of them without a source of livelihood.

Led by Informal traders chair Joanese Odera, the group said that its efforts to find out why the structures were demolished proved futile.

Odera also said that they will seek for legal redress following the destruction of the shops if the Trade CEC fails to address their grievances.

A number of residents were seen at the scene trying to salvage the property following the destruction.

The shops were demolished to pave way for the construction of construction under the Kisumu Urban Project, which is being funded by the French government.

On his part, Physical Planning CEC Nerry Achar defended the county government regarding the demolition. He also said that the residents of the area had been a notice. Kisumu county boss Anyang’ Nyong’o is yet to be reached for a comment on the matter.
